Shipping & Other General Information 2012

Terms Full payment with order. 

Iowa residents please include 7% state sales tax.  All our plants are state-inspected and guaranteed true to name; however, we cannot be responsible for plant losses due to causes beyond our control after they are planted in your garden.  We ship double fans or better on all daylilies except new introductions and those few where we have stated "Single Fans Only."  If not satisfied with plants, return them with original labels within 5 days for refund.  No orders accepted after Sept. 20, 2012.

Substitutes and Bonus Plants. 

Please send us a long list of acceptable substitutes, particularly when ordering plants designated "Limited".  We like to send bonuses, and will try to select bonuses from your sub list, if stock permits.

Shipping and Handling 

Daylilies will be shipped from late April till approximately June 1, and again from mid-August to Oct. 1.  Hostas will be shipped beginning sometime in May, as soon as the plants have emerged from the ground enough that we can select the nicest plants to send you.  A selection of potted hosta and companion plants are available at the garden throughout the season.  For UPS Ground Service (recommended for Midwestern states), please add $14.00 plus 75 cents/plant over one plant.  For UPS Second-Day Air, please add $18.00 plus $1.25 per plant over one plant.  If you are ordering plants for both spring and fall delivery, please include separate shipping and handling fees.  UPS Second-Day Air is strongly urged for all shipments to the South, the East Coast, and west of the Rocky Mountains.  Minimum mail order $40.00 plant total plus shipping (no minimum for pickup at garden).  Iowa residents please add 7% sales tax.  Please include a list of acceptable substitutes; we will try to use it to select bonus plants.

Discounts for large orders. 

Orders of $100-$249.99 (plant total only, excluding tax and shipping) may take a 5% discount; $250-$499.99, 10%; $500 or more, 15%.  Discounts do not apply to Gardener's Specials or other specials.

Canadian Orders. 

Minimum Canadian order $300.00 (plant total only) payable in U.S. funds.  Canadian customers must agree to pay all shipping costs plus fee(s) for the required phytosanitary certificate(s).  Please contact us to make arrangements for shipping and other details.

Daylily Gardeners Special. 

If you just want some nice daylilies or other perennials and don't care about names, let us choose for you.  Tell us your preferences for colors, large-flowered or mini, eyes, etc., or we'll pick a nice balanced selection.  6/$35.00, 12/$60.00, 15/$75.00 for vigorous, individually labeled, double-fan or larger daylilies.  No additional discounts on specials.

Hosta Gardeners Special. 

If you’re new to hostas, let us send you a nicely balanced collection of our most popular hostas. All plants will be individually labeled and will include a variety of contrasting leaf colors, shapes, and patterns.  Please specify whether you prefer an assortment of sizes or all small/mini or medium.  6/$35.00, 12/$60.00, 15/$75.00.

Rock Garden Special. 

We love the very small and miniature hostas.  These distinctive varieties make cute, compact clumps that are perfect for a rock garden or for the front row of the hosta bed.  We’ll pick a balanced selection of leaf colors, shapes, patterns, etc.; plants will be individually labeled and all different.  6/$35.00, 12/$60.00, 15/$75.00.

Gift Certificates. 

Looking for the perfect gift for that gardener on your list?  Perennial plants are a gift that will give enjoyment for a long time -- and won't wind up in the next garage sale!  A gift certificate will allow the recipient to select exactly the plant or plants he or she wants.  We'll send a gift certificate (available in any amount of $25.00 or more), a current catalog, and your greetings for any occasion.  If you prefer, we'd be happy to make a selection for you, or we'll send you the gift certificate and catalog so you can present the gift in person.
